The China Study: My Thoughts

the china study

Author: T.Colin Campbell
Book: The China Study

Introduction

I have been hearing about the China Study for quite some time, but I always kept putting off reading it. Recently, I have been researching more about healthy living. After I caught a cold two months in a row I thought I needed to do something to strengthen my immune system. I keep a list of all the recommended health books. The China Study was highly recommended so I decided to give this a go first.

I chose the audio version of this book and I purchased it through the audible app. I love audio books as I can listen during my commute and whilst I’m doing tasks that don’t require much thought, but more on that in another post.

This book is mind blowing, I could not stop listening to it. It got me  looking at the food I eat from a new perspective. Since I’ve read the China study, (which was around 2 months ago at the time of writing  this post) I’ve changed the way I eat into something I never thought I would be  able to do.

Basic Information

The China Study is based on years of comprehensive research and actual experiments explained and proven on how most common disease are food / lifestyle related. These include Heart Disease, Diabetes and Cancer which are some of the most common unfortunately fatal disease.

Dr Campbell explains in depth how we are portrayed with a “healthy lifestyle” which is actually making us ill. Some popular diets, including but are not limited to, the Atkins diet are actually harmful to the human body. We cannot sustain such eating regimen as a lifestyle and be truly healthy.

In the China Study, Dr T Colin Campbell discusses how unfortunately most doctors and practitioners including nutritionists are not taught about the holistic aspect of the body and how this approach can lead to optimal health. Our body work as one holistic machine where everything effects every part in some way or another.

Unfortunately, in most medical courses, the students are mostly taught how chemicals effect different parts of the body as a single organ. When a drug is recommended for one thing it will most often then not affect a different part of the body. This leads to having to encounter side effects of such chemicals for which in turn we are prescribed more chemicals which can lead to a never ending cycle. Certain foods which are a necessity for the human health such as carbohydrates are being demonized and led to believe that eliminating them is good for our health.

Why I love it?

This was truly an eye opener. The amount of information in the book is stupendous. It goes into so much detail yet it is easy to understand. You do not need to understand medical terms to understand it. I plan on listening to it again soon. There is so much information which is vital for everyday life. This can actually help in preventing and actually healing disease.

Final Verdict:

I would recommend this book to everyone, and I believe that everyone should read this book, old and young! The sooner the better as the sooner you start leading a healthier lifestyle, the better your optimal health would be.

This was a true eye opener for me and a life changer.  It all actually made sense as to why some of my conditions disappeared along with eliminating certain foods from my diet.

This is a health book that I would recommend everyone to read!

I love this book too although the information might be slightly outdated but it doesn’t take away from the fact that a plant-based diet is healthier than the standard diet in today’s society.
