Ice-cold summer smoothies do not taste the same during winter. You need something to warm you up and boost your immune system in these cold months. The answer lies in winter smoothies. With their creamy texture, healthy seasonal fruits and flavourful spices, you can’t stop at just one!

Try these five easy-to-make warm smoothies.

1. Gingerbread Winter Smoothie

If you like gingerbread cookies, you will love this spicy drink. For this smoothie you will need 2 cups of unsweetened almond milk, 1 banana, ¼ teaspoon of ginger powder, the same amount of ground cardamom, ground cloves, and ground cinnamon, and a pinch of Himalayan salt. Place all the ingredients into a blender, and process until you get a creamy mixture. Pour into a glass and heat up in the microwave.

2. Warm Apple Pie Smoothie

What tastes better than a warm apple pie? A warm apple pie in a glass. Apples are packed with fibres and vitamin C, which is exactly what your body needs to stay healthy during winter. Combine 1 apple, ½ cup of water, ¼ teaspoon of vanilla extract, some maple syrup (or honey if you prefer) and a pinch of nutmeg and allspice in a blender. Process it until it is smooth, and then microwave for a couple of minutes to warm it up. Serve in mugs.

3. Oaty Chocolate Hot Smoothie

Start your day with chocolate. First, add 15g of dark chocolate to a cup and pour in one glass of milk. Microwave the mixture until the chocolate has melted. Then add about 20g of oats, half a banana, 6 almonds, a teaspoon of chia seeds, a splash of water and a little of the warmed up milk and chocolate to a blender. When the oats and chia seeds are smooth, pour the mixture into a cup and stir in the rest of the milk with chocolate. Grate some chocolate on top and enjoy.

4. Warm Ginger Pear Smoothie

We love how ginger goes with winter. Ginger can calm an upset stomach, it stimulates digestion, and is a natural pain reliever. These are sufficient reasons to start your day with a ginger pear smoothie. All you have to do is place all the ingredients in a blender, blend, pour into a mug, and heat up. The ingredients are 2 pears, 1 thumb-sized piece of ginger, 2 tablespoons of hemp seeds, some maple syrup, 2 tablespoons of almond butter, 1 ½ cup of almond milk.

5. Cucumber Winter Smoothie

If you still prefer refreshing smoothies, and you can get your hands on a box of fruit and some veggies too, a cucumber winter smoothie might just be your thing. This delicious drink is packed with fibres, proteins, vitamins, antioxidants and, most importantly, fantastic flavour. You will need 1 cucumber, 2 apples, 1 cup of frozen mango, 2-4 cups of baby spinach, 1 cup of orange juice, and 1 of cup water. Combine all ingredients in a blender and enjoy.
