Understanding Detox Side-Effects



We might think that there are no downsides to detox, but if we overdo it, we might experience some negative side effects. The key is to start out slow.

Why Detox?

Our bodies are designed to eliminate many toxins naturally and if we take care of it, our body can do quite well on its own. But in today’s lifestyle where everyone is very busy and with all the temptations around us it is very easy to indulge and be exposed to thousands of chemicals released into the environment. 


How to Detox?

The best way to detox is to follow a specific plan designed by a professional to make sure you are taking all the necessary nutrients to help your body cleanse properly. Taking it slow is key, therefore a 30 days fasting or a 30 day juice cleanse might not be ideal if you are just starting out. 

I am no expert in the matter but I recently did a 21 day cleanse from Clean by Dr Alejandro Junger. I have posted about such cleanse and my experience, and I would recommend such cleanse. Even if you don’t want to do the cleanse, the book is so informative, that everyone should read it in my opinion 


Common Symptoms of Detox

A cleanse or a detox has many benefits, but one may experience some side effects especially in the beginning. Some common symptoms include: Feeling of weakness, headaches, nauseam unfocused vision, Irregular bowel movements, weight loss, rashes and blemishes.

These symptoms are short term, they are usually the sign of drastic change, by if you are doing the cleanse right, the symptoms should disappear within a couple of days.

Importance of Proper Cleanse

If you decide to cleanse, make sure you follow a proper program to make sure you are taking all the nutrients to help the body properly process toxins and get rid of them and staying hydrate is key.This is important as without proper nutrition and hydration, the body might end up re absorbing the toxins!

    I like detoxing from time to time as it’s a great way to help your body – there can be side effects, I agree but at the same time think it’s good to put your body through that, get rid of toxins and generally just take better care of yourself! πŸ™‚
