I decided to give the 21 day cleanse within the book a go and am currently on week 3, which is the last week of the cleanse.
I must admit, it is not as hard as I thought it would be. The idea is to have one solid main meal a day, ideally at lunch time and a liquid meal as breakfast and dinner. Recipes are supplied in the book and the recipes I have tried so far were all delicious.
The first couple of days were the hardest, as someone who was used to 5 meals a day (small meals obviously) I found it a bit difficult to cut the habit of snacking, but I busied myself and drank lots of water and all the cravings disappeared.
To keep up with the cleanse, I was meal prepping my food on a Saturday afternoon to find everything ready and have no excuses not to stay with the plan, but I will explain my meal prepping method in a separate post.
Since doing this cleanse, I do feel a lot better, the spots on my face reduced, my nose congestion is much better, and I feel like I can see better (in brighter colours) however I am not sure if the last one is related. I somehow have more energy, even though I am eating less.
Whenever I was really hungry in the afternoon I would eat an apple with some homemade almond butter, but i did not feel that I needed a snack everyday. The smoothies and the soups (liquid meals) are quite filling and since I am drinking water continuously it feels like my stomach is never really empty so it reduces the cravings (which might have been from dehydration).
Reading this book made me conscious of the food I was eating, and it really gave me a different outlook on food. Although I most probably would not cut out certain foods for a lifetime, I will be making more conscious choices from now on and will leave certain foods for occasions.
I am also planning to make this cleanse a bi-annual routine (twice a year) to keep my body in a healthy condition as possible, and will definitely be making healthier choices when eating out. Especially after how better I feel after being on this cleanse
I do recommend reading this book and maybe giving the detox a go. It is always a good idea, knowing what you are putting in your body and how it affects it.
Have you read this book? What are your thoughts?
