Every part of your body consists largely of water and requires the presence of this molecule to function.
Lungs – These are moistened by water, which facilitates the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide when you breathe
Body Temperature – Water acts as a coolant for the body, helping it to lose heat through perspiration when you exercise
Heart and Blood – Your heart is made up of 75 per cent water and your blood 85 per cent, so keeping your body well hydrated is vital for the cardiovascular system to function at its best
Brain – This consists of up to 90 percent water and uses up to one twentieth of your body’s blood supply. Dehydration can cause brain cells to shrink visibly leading to impaired functioning, development of headaches, fatigue and even depression

Kidneys – your kidneys are responsible for filtering waste from your blood and eliminating it in the form of urine. If you do not drink enough water, your kidneys conserve liquid by recycling it and, rather than being eliminated, waste begins to build up in your body tissues instead. If these toxins are not removed they can begin to damage your health
Digestive system – your body requires water in order to properly digest food as it is water that carries nutrients to the cells through the blood. Chronic dehydration reduces the efficiency of the digestive process and can lead to constipation, weight gain, heart burn and gastritis.

Skin and Joints
Bones and joints – Your bones are made up of 22 per cent water, while your muscles consist of as much as 75 per cent. Water serves to lubricate the joints by maintaining the elasticity of cartilage and ensuring that the opposing surfaces of the joints glide freely. Meanwhile, the vertebrae in your back rely on the hydraulic properties of water to support the spinal column.
Skin – By hydrating and buoying the skin cells, water plumps up the skin and prevents it from sagging and becoming dry and wrinkly. To keep your skin feeling taut and looking wrinkle free try to drink about two litres of water each day.

Choosing water containing foods
The food you eat has an important impact on your overall water intake, as all foods contain some water. Meat can contain up to 75 per cent water, while fruit and vegetables can provide as much as 95 per cent water. Watermelons, grapes, oranges, lettuce, cucumber and celery all have high water contents.
Even dry foods can provide some water – bread is around 38 per cent water. By following a balanced diet, supplemented with two litres of water every day, you will ensure that your body receives the optimum levels of water to remain efficient and healthy
To stay healthy you should drink about two litres of water a day!
