The primary source of vitamins and minerals is from foods!
Some vitamins are produced by the body, however all vitamins and minerals that cannot be made by the body, such as Vitamin C, are obtained from foods.
Different vitamins and minerals are required and absorbed by the body in different ways.
Can be divided into 2 categories:
Fat Soluble: Vitamins A, D, E, F (essential fatty acids) and K are absorbed in the body by fat
Water Soluble: Vitamin B & C, choline and folic acid, are absorbed by water
Can also be divided into 2 categories:
Macrominerals – which are needed in larger amounts such as calcium, chlorine, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium and sodium
Trace minerals – which are needed in smaller amounts and include; copper, fluoride, iodine, iron, selenium and zinc
I will go into more detail on vitamins and minerals in separate posts.
