Superfoods: Olive Oil

A little bit of History:

The Mediterraneans have long been aware of the health-giving properties of olive oil and they use it on practically everything from fish dishes to salads and breads. Olive oil is one of the oldest foods known, dating back 7000 years to Ancient Crete

Benefits:

Rich in monosaturated fats, olive oil is also full of cancer-fighting, anti-ageing vitamin E. In the Mediterranean, where olive oil is a staple part of the diet, rates of heart disease, atherosclerosis, diabetes, colon cancer and asthma are significantly lower

Tips:

  •  Cold Pressed, organic virgin olive oil is the best olive oil. You could also do as the Italians and use olive oil as a natural hair conditioner or even as a skin moisturizer
  • Puree some olive oil with garlic and you favourite beans or pulses to make a dip
  • Use as a simple salad dressing with cracked black pepper and sea salt
